Captain's blog day 3

i've created my synths and i am in the midst of making melody lines for my piece. I created my second synth which started off as a sine wave but i transformed it to only have one wave and has a bump in the middle of it and has a more melodic noise that helps move the other synth along swiftly. I moved the sine shaper and the skew all the way down to get this sound. I moved the keymapping volume around so that higher notes would get more noise. Also i gave the second operator a sine wave that got pushed into a vicious trend of waveform to back up the original sound wave. I had two filters, one with the bp and one with the svf. The svf was in triple mode with more drive in it, and the bp was in double with not much drive. the speed and spread in the fx was pushed up alot but it has no delay.

Captains blog day 2

I found one synth today. I used a sine wave that I slightly tweaked to have a bit more of a bop sound, so that it had more of a spacey tonality. I used the tension slider in the wave for this effect and it seemed to work relatively well. I used the first two operators and used the the original svf filter sound but I pushed the waveshifter mixer down a little bit to give it more what seemed to be wah sound, whilst bringing down the cutoff envelope. I brought up a bit of the chorus delay and depth on the fx portion of it, while enabling the delay and bringing tempo and feedback levels up slightly. with this I will create a kind of gently yet creepy sort of piece that sounds like a bit of a techno piece.

Captain's Blog Stargate day 1

Today I went over many different sounds of sytrus to find one matching my sound in my head, finding to my suprise nothing. This worked well however, for it inspired me more to just write the entire synth myself, and figure out my own sounds myself rather than be inspired by others noises. I chose to follow by the piano voicing in the band Athiest, a early 90's metal band that made very few slow piano songs, but I followed that mentality that if I could find a spacey, kind of air filled synth, I could write the piece. I found that the best way to do this is by using the sine waves. Unfortunately this is as far as I have gotten for today.

SytruS

I was looking through the sytrus machine on Fl studio, searching through the presets for a good idea for tones, and I stumbled upon two, one which made me think of a techno styled bopping noise, and the other which made me think of making a chorus styled "ah" for the main melodies. I used a set form of AABA styling, leaving breaks in the main melody for random interlude loops. Most of the loops were created using the "Riff Machine" in Fl studio, creating little riff lines for the piece. While I was in sytrus I used the Volume and cutoff key mappings so that certain notes can be heard more clearly and so they cut themselves off faster into the actual piece itself. One of my main influences on this piece is that of a band by the name Planet X, which can be heard through the weird space bubbly noises throughout the song

vocoder project

This is the vocoder project using the vocal line of a “sinister preacher” reading revelations, which gave me the idea to make a more metal feel to the song. I made music around the repeating line and used electric guitars and basses for the melody of the background music. I also added a few more vocal parts like that of the crows in the end and I made lines of what sounds like hellish groans in the back as well. I used primarily scratch noises and snare brush noises for this.

Today I finished up my vocoder project and created teh bass line to go underneath the rest of my music and my vocal line for the piece itself. The only thing it needs now is a little more touch up work on how the piece starts and stops with music.

Today I worked on the vocoder unit of FL Studio 9 and create music for the files of speech that I chose last class. I used those pieces to create a twisted slightly demonic sound for my music and put the parts together, while chosing different instruments needed along the way. This led to the development of using more than one part for the vocoder, which gave me even more to work with. Today my full agenda was : making the music behind the beast of the piece.

project 4

This file is influenced by the sounds of many different bands that I’d been listening to at the time like Aghora. The real automation clips come into play with the volume and slight pitch bends throughout the song. There is as seen in various dance styled themes a reoccurring kick drum pattern, that is followed up with other variations of drum kits such as brushes on the snare. The melodies come from many different pad sounds and instruments such as the piano. The biggest problem I had throughout the song writing portion was with the pads, where it became hard to find a way to quiet down the reverb of the notes.

FX

This is my FX music loop created through an inspiration of many artists such as Unearth and MSI. I've been listening to alot of these two bands recently which inspired a fast guitar and bass that have a bit more chaotic of a melody than my previous post, but in a way that still keeps the calm drum lines in the background. The kick drum has a delay on it to fade in and out with a more techno beat to follow the guitar and bass which both have reverb for the effect of static and metal combining, as well as a slight amount of the phaser setting. The snare drum is also equipped with the phaser setting to match with the kick drum.

Techno Style Loop

I was going on through the FPC created loops and stumbled over many different dance and kind of swinging drum loops, so I thought of many different techno dance musicians that related to metal drum loops like Jason Popson (j mann) of mushroomhead, and I began to write. With him as my ultimate influence I started off with a darker more ominous general theme which developed with the drum loops to a more kick drum based melody, which opens up the option of more effects such as different synthesized string instruments. The slayer channel helped me pick the notes for the various tones used throughout. The piano parts are completely guided by the sound of bands like Mushroomhead, Malice Mizer and Opeth.

My Drum Loop For MusicTech

This is a drum loop that I created with the inspiration of The Knack, with a simple repeating kick drum pattern through the intro. I followed that up with a faster fill that was almost a more Heavy Rock styled drum beat (with more toms) that helped progress the beat move further away from , and then back to the original beat. The fill leads into a more melody based beat that goes back to the first pattern, but also creates its own style. These are followed up by a repeating of the intro through to the end.
